Immersa Global's Founder Speaks at United Nations World Tourism Organization Conference on Wine Tourism

Lisbon, Portugal; 02 January 2020 - Valle de Colchagua was an ideal location for the 4th annual United National World Travel Organization’s (UNTWO) Conference on Wine Tourism, which took place on 4-6 December. The valley’s diverse soils and micro-climates create a unique environment, ideal for growing numerous quality grape varietals and the region has become home to many of Chile’s most famous wines and a sought-after tourist destination.
The theme of this year’s conference was ‘Co-creating Innovative Experiences’ and speakers explored issues related to co-creation of the wine tour experience, big data in Wine Tourism, and more.
For travel curator, and speaker, Sheree M. Mitchell, the theme was especially relevant. Her business, Immersa Global is a boutique tour operator based in Portugal specializing in exclusive and unique food, wine, art and culture-based travel experiences in the region.
Innovation and co-creation are key aspects of the Immersa Global package where clients get to experience intimate and interactive tailor-made trips with access to local Portuguese VIPs such as famous chefs, winemakers, artists, writers, businesspeople, politicians, and American diplomats.
It’s all part of Sheree’s unique vision of travel, where handpicked experiences allow for a more intimate and memorable journey.
Sheree has traveled to over 40 countries herself and has lived on three continents. In her early-thirties, she embarked on a year-long solo journey around the world that ignited her passion for travel and led to her founding Immersa Global, the first American-owned and operated boutique tour operator and travel curator in Portugal.
“International travel has been a lifelong investment for me and has become my most important personal asset. It has empowered me to define global citizenship on my own terms as well as design a life of perpetual globetrotting that most would consider impossible. My favorite saying is, ‘Be daring enough to dream big and resilient enough to make it happen.’”
Sheree’s address at the 4th UNWTO Global Conference was entitled, "Wine Tourism Experiences – From Imagination to Commercialization". Through her presentation, Sheree invited the audience to peek behind the scenes and see how her team at Immersa Global curate their wine tourism experiences for clients. Sheree opened with a video that captured the ‘imagination’ aspect of their process. Next, she went into the other pillars of their process including the ‘consumer’, ‘destination’ and ‘product’.
“I take great pride in the care we put into each and every client experience,” says Sheree, “Our clients are generally well-traveled, sophisticated, and intellectually-curious travelers who appreciate tailor-made trips and so it’s always a wonderful challenge to create unique and highly memorable journeys for them.”
As someone who speaks regularly at travel and tourism conferences throughout the U.S. and Europe, Sheree says attending and speaking at the UNWTO Global Conference on Wine Tourism was an amazing opportunity to continue to build her company’s reputation in the highly-curated wine tourism industry of Portugal. Sheree’s next big project will be to design projects that use tourism as a vehicle to connect cities in the U.S. with cities in Portugal at the municipal and national level.
